For nearly three decades, the University of Iowa Powwow has brought together students, families, alumni, and community members to celebrate the living traditions of Native nations. This year’s Powwow, Here: Yesterday, Today, & Tomorrow, honors the enduring presence, adaptability, and strength of Indigenous peoples during times of social and political evolution.
Hosted by the Native American Student Association (NASA) with the support of the Powwow Planning Committee, this annual gathering is a vital space for cultural exchange and community building. It uplifts Native voices, fosters understanding, and welcomes people from all backgrounds to witness and participate in Indigenous song, dance, and ceremony.
Last year’s Powwow was cancelled due to budget and time constraints. This was a difficult decision that underscored just how essential sustained support is to keep this tradition alive. In response, our planning and fundraising efforts began earlier and are already further along in the process compared to last year. With your help, we can ensure that the University of Iowa’s 29th Annual Powwow not only returns but does so with renewed strength and stability for the years to come.
Your contribution will help make that possible. Funds raised will support honoraria for dancers and drummers, critical outreach to Native communities, and the development of long-term systems that keep the Powwow thriving year after year.
Your gift, no matter the size, helps keep the drumbeat strong. Every contribution affirms that Native culture is here: rooted in history, alive in the present, and carried forward into the future. Together, we can ensure that this celebration continues to bring people together in a spirit of respect, resilience, and community.
