About

"Miles That Matter" is a one-day cycling fundraiser organized by the Physician Assistant Student Government at the University of Iowa. On July 22, our team will ride 68 miles during RAGBRAI, traveling from Boone to Marshalltown on RAGBRAI's "What I Ride For" day, a day dedicated to honoring the people and causes that inspire us. For our team, that cause is the fight against cancer.

Cancer impacts every Iowan in some way. Whether it is a parent, spouse, child, friend, coworker, neighbor, or patient, nearly all of us know someone whose life has been affected by this disease. Iowa continues to face one of the fastest-rising cancer rates in the nation, making this issue especially personal for our communities. As future healthcare providers, we witness firsthand the profound impact cancer has on patients and families, and we believe we all have a role to play in supporting those affected.

Our goal is to bring together students, healthcare professionals, alumni, local businesses, and community members to raise both awareness and funding for the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. Funds raised through this event will support cancer research, patient care, and community outreach efforts that directly benefit Iowans across the state.

Every rider on our team has committed to raising at least $1 for every mile ridden, and we hope to have more than 50 cyclists participating. Through individual fundraising efforts, business sponsorships, and community support, we aim to turn every mile into meaningful progress in the fight against cancer.

While the ride itself is only one day, the impact of cancer is felt every day. That's why we're committed to making Miles That Matter more than just a fundraiser. We hope it becomes a lasting tradition that continues to support patients, families, and groundbreaking cancer research for years to come.

We invite you to join us in this mission. Whether you ride, sponsor, share our message, or make a donation, every contribution makes a difference.

Please consider supporting Miles That Matter and the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. Together, we can turn miles into hope, research into breakthroughs, and community support into meaningful change for countless Iowa families. Feel free to email uiparagbrai@gmail.com with any questions.
