The Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Genetics at the University of Iowa is celebrating its 50th anniversary in June 2025. The program began with seven primary faculty members and has grown to include 76 faculty and 40 students across four colleges and 16 academic departments, with nearly 200 alumni. The program’s mission is to train a diverse cohort of graduate students in the broad discipline of genetics, including foundational research, computational genetics, and medical genetics. This training equips students with the knowledge and skills to pursue careers in academia, the scientific industry, policy, and scientific writing, and to educate society, which will increasingly need to understand the implications of their own genomes.
For this special anniversary, the program directors are inviting former and current faculty members, students, and friends of the program to support student success through contributions that will fund travel fellowships and external seminar speaker sponsorships.
