Mock Trial at the University of Iowa is one of the most decorated programs in AMTA history. In the past 20 years, MT@UI has qualified for the National Championship Tournament 16 times and has sent a total of 25 teams to that tournament during that time frame. In 2002 and 2003, Iowa was back-to-back National Champions, and compiled the longest top-5 streak ever recorded in AMTA history (2001-2006). This competitive season, we have had at least one competitor be awarded a witness or attorney award at nearly every competition we’ve attended.
As much as MT@UI loves bringing home trophies, the most important part of our program is our members. Members of Mock Trial at University of Iowa often give mock trial credit for lifelong friendships. Teammates spend countless hours together each week, so it’s only natural that these partnerships develop into full blown friendships. From bags tournaments, “Mocks-giving”, and team dinners, Iowa prioritizes the social aspects of mock trial. The members of our program support, care for, and value each other in and out of the courtroom. Our competitors love this program so much, several have come back to coach. Our current team of coaches is made up exclusively of past MT@UI competitors. Many graduates look back at their time at Iowa and cite MT@UI Iowa as the highlight of their college careers. The lasting impact is what makes this program so special There are many expenses required to keep Mock Trial at the University of Iowa competitive. At the beginning of the year, fees are required to gain access to the AMTA case. All competitions that we attend throughout the season require a registration fee. In addition, the program also has to account for travel expenses, such as hotels and transportation and remain up to date with materials for performance, like padfolios and demo bags, stands, and the demos themselves. Mock trial is a beneficial student organization and a crucial part of many people’s lives. Funds raised here will directly benefit our members and allow them to further their skills as attorneys and witnesses. Thank you for your consideration!
