Pediatric Pain and Palliative Care Journals
The Pediatric Pain and Palliative Care team at University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital provides care to children with serious illness and their families. Our job is to focus on the child as a whole being which includes their family. We help to explore what gives meaning and joy to each child/family and help them to make goals that are aligned with these values. Another aspect of our care is symptom management to improve quality of life. Our core team is composed of a doctor, nurse practitioners, and nurse clinicians who provide palliative care. Our patients also receive tremendous support from child life, art therapy, music therapy, social work, spiritual services, physical therapy, occupational therapy and hospital teachers who partner with our core team.
We are raising money to buy journals for our palliative care patients/families. A journal can be used in many ways. It can be a place to pour out the feelings and emotions experienced. It can be a place to keep track of a journey. It can be a place to write down the questions that keep us up at night but that we forget as soon as the medical team is rounding. It can be a place to keep track of complicated medical regimens. It could also be used as a place of expressive art. No matter the use it can make a child or family facing a difficult journey know that they are being cared for.
Please help us support our children and families who are facing one of the most difficult journeys they probably have ever faced. By making a donation to help us buy these journals you can support the children and families served by our Pediatric Pain and Palliative Care team.
