Pushing the Boundaries:
ICDOCS is a student-run international film festival held right here in Iowa City April 30 through May 2, 2020. Filmmakers and films chosen to compete in this festival are innovative, genre-breaking films that aim to show audiences a new scope of what documentaries can truly be. The expression of film attempts to educate audiences, regardless of background, on various film forms, editing choices and overall storytelling methods, whether it is conventional or not. With the main location of the film festival being hosted right on campus at the Adler Journalism and Mass Communications building, a sense of community brought together with vastly different perspectives and ideas make this special film festival what it truly is. ICDOCS is also free to the general public, thus allowing anyone who wishes to come and experience a new way of looking at film.
Who are we?
We are a group of students in charge of running this film festival with a variety of tasks and goals ahead of us. With challenges such as establishing a new design aesthetic, programming films, or just raising awareness, our love for film has drawn us to IDOCS and we hope to do our best representing all of the Cinematic Arts department here at the University of Iowa.
Why we need your help:
As Cinema students, our passion for film has given us a wonderful opportunity to participate in something much bigger than ourselves. With the film community in Iowa City constantly growing, more and more people are beginning to appreciate and recognize the beauty of what we cherish so dearly. That being said, continuous growth is important, and not just for us but for the filmmakers that participate in ICDOCS. This film festival gives filmmakers an opportunity for an audience to see but also experience their films. With no cost to the audience, the film festival may open up more doors for those seeking to make a career out of something they love to do. Attention towards ICDOCS helps the university as well as the community in general, solidifying Iowa City as a major midwestern film hub. ICDOCS means a lot to all who participate, but more importantly it can give opportunities to those who seek the freedom to create, and you can help be the first step.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 for ICDOCS and bring awareness to a wonderful event happening in our community. With the money we raise, we plan to use it for marketing, hosting venues, providing food and various other things to ensure the festival is run as smoothly as possible. Any donation towards our goal will help us in our endeavor, regardless of the amount.
Who we work with:
We have a great team aiding us in our mission for IDOCS, giving us step by step advice for the potential achievement of running this festival. With all types of skills being used, whether it is on the design team or community outreach, we will work together to provide an excellent experience for those who participate as well as come and enjoy the festival.
