Phil Ahrens Education Fund
We in the Department of Urology hope through the Phil Ahrens’ Education Fund to raise $40,000 to provide our surgical staff with the opportunity to attend educational conferences for years to come. This will enable them to advance their knowledge of urologic surgery and refine/hone operating room skills to better prepare them to educate and mentor the next generation of urology faculty, residents or staff.
About this Fund
Phil Aherns was a beloved and skilled surgical technician in the University of Iowa Department of Urology since 1984. Phil passed away suddenly on September 16. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa and an avid Hawkeye fan. Motivated, astute, and a dedicated employee, Phil’s years of service, technical expertise, urologic knowledge, and calm and supportive demeanor to those he mentored will be greatly missed.
In 2017, Phil was awarded the Excellence in Interprofessional Education and Practice Award from the University of Iowa’s Graduate Medical Education division. This award recognizes non-physician health care team members for their outstanding performance in interprofessional education and practice that helps the next generation of physicians. With your support, Phil Ahren’s dedication to and expertise in his profession will become a tradition.
This fund is being established as a non-endowed account. If it reaches $100,000 it will be converted to an endowed account.
