About IC RED!
IC RED is a student run organization that focuses on the topic of HIV and AIDS. Our mission is to bring in the human side of the disease by focusing on the destigmatization of the diagnosis by providing education and resources to the Iowa City community.
IC RED’s primary focus is Red Week which is a week that is dedicated to the survivors of HIV/AIDS as well as those who have passed away. This year we will have events such as an educational panel, a trivia night at Studio, a reading of names ceremony, and so many more. The reading of names ceremony is a staple here at Iowa and is by far one of the most humbling events. This year it will take place on Wednesday, November 20 and we will spend dawn until dusk reading the names of people that have passed from the disease. While Red Week is a great start to spreading awareness, HIV doesn’t stop at the end of the week.
Throughout the year, we host events to continue our efforts. This year we are partnering with HIV Abroad for yoga and painting with Brush and Barrel. We will also be partnering with Esports for a Super Smash Bros tournament called Safely Smashing. It is very important to us that we engage the students as well as the general community of Iowa City.
How you can help!
Funds collected through this campaign will help us create an educational ‘toolbox’ full of supplies and information about HIV and AIDS. They will also allow us to have more fun events to remind people that HIV isn’t just a scary virus, but rather something that people are currently living through.
We appreciate anything you are able to give! Thank you!
