College of Law Class of 1979: 40th Reunion Class Gift
UPDATE: Two of our classmates have offered to match the next $3,000 in gifts we receive to this project! Help us raise $35,000 before December 31!
Welcome, Class of 1979!
Let's celebrate our 40th reunion year by giving back to the law school that gave us so much. Our goal is to raise $35,000 for the remodel of the Moot Court student offices. The law school has identified this as an area of immediate need that will benefit a significant number of students. The current office space is in the basement of the Boyd Law Building and is in desperate need of an update. The funds we raise will allow the law school to restructure the space to better fit the program’s needs, including updated equipment, office furniture, storage, painting and new carpet. Thanks to the generosity of several classmates we already have $10,000 committed to this campaign.
About Moot Court
As you may recall, students become involved in Moot Court during their second and third years. In any given year, half of the 2L class will enroll in Iowa Law Appellate Advocacy 1 (AA1) in their first semester. They use the Moot Court offices for their briefs and arguments. The majority of the initial group will continue on to a variety of competitions as part of AA2. Those teams compete in Regionals and if a team finishes in the top two, they advance to Nationals. We have consistently had at least one team move on to Nationals in the last few years. Last year we won the top brief and this year we placed second. The students, faculty and practitioners who judge our teams are all volunteers.
Moot Court is an incredible opportunity. It allows students to obtain practical experience while honing their writing skills. They also have the chance to meet and work with other students, faculty and our alumni. This is a true opportunity for them to showcase their skills while working with alums and may open doors for them in their future careers.
Our goal is to raise $35,000 and while this is a lofty goal for a campaign of this kind, we are confident we can achieve it with the generous support from each of our class members. We consistently have 10 classmates each year attain Dean’s Club level of giving, which is $1,000 per year. We hope to see this number increase with this campaign. So, please consider making a donation at the $1,000 level or greater to show your support of current and future Iowa Law students, and to join our Dean’s Club. Please know that a gift at any level is meaningful and will make a difference in helping us reach our fundraising goal.
If you've already made a gift to the law school this year, and you want your gift to count toward this campaign, please contact Theresa Jubert at firstname.lastname@example.org, or consider making an additional gift to directly support the Moot Court remodel.
