Support the Hawkeye Ballroom Dance Company
We are the Hawkeye Ballroom Dance Company. Our mission? To provide affordable ballroom dance lessons to students and community members alike. But we are so much more than that. We embrace differences in all our members and celebrate what brings us together: dance. We give students, staff, faculty, and local residents a place to gather together; to meet and move and have time off from the stresses of life.
We also have the opportunity to travel to national and collegiate ballroom competitions, which help us grow our skills and connect with others who share our passion for ballroom dancing.
We Need Your Help!
As mentioned, our primary mission is to provide affordable ballroom dance lessons. As a group run by college students, we are aware of how cost-prohibitive extra-curricular activities can often be. Our executive board works hard to keep class fees as low as possible, so everyone can join in.
The funds we collect from dues and what University of Iowa Student Government helps with go to two main areas: rent for the Old Brick Church’s main ballroom and paying our instructors a reasonable fee. Money left over after these payments goes to lower the costs of competition fees.
This year, due to a combination of executive board turnover, declining first year membership, and university budget cuts, we are having difficulty making these payments. The board does not wish to raise membership fees and ostracize potential members; so we are looking into alternative ways of securing funding like running this GOLDrush campaign!
All money raised from this campaign will help us pay our instructors what they deserve, and the rest will be split between saving for the next year's group and going towards travel and competition fees.
Thank you for choosing to support the Hawkeye Ballroom Dance Company!
