Model United Nations (MUN) is a student organization at the University of Iowa devoted to learning, diplomacy, peace, and justice. We compete in academic conferences and competitions that simulate United Nations procedures. At these conferences, our members take
on the viewpoints of a country and work with other teams to solve global issues.
MUN was established last Spring and has begun fully operating this year. In the fall, we had the opportunity to attend the American Model United Nations International Conference in Chicago, where we represented Myanmar on several pressing topics including youth involvement
in disarmament and non-proliferation, return and restitution of cultural property, and the safety of journalists and the issue of impunity.
Though it was our first-ever conference, we performed exceptionally well, taking home multiple committee awards and the “Overall Best Delegation Award” for our performance throughout the entire conference. MUN embodies the University of Iowa’s values on a national and international stage at these conferences. For example, MUN represented the University of Iowa’s identity as a premier writing institution by winning the Best Position Paper Award at our most recent conference.
Looking forward, we hope to continue our success and travel across the country to other nationally renowned conferences, exhibiting the best Iowa has to offer. Your donation will go directly towards travel and conference fees. We appreciate all your help and support!
