A graduate student support fund has been established in honor of Dr. Jerald Schnoor, who is set to retire after a long career at the University of Iowa that has spanned more than four decades. Jerry holds both master’s and doctoral degrees in environmental health engineering. A member of the college since 1977, he was named a full professor in 1983. A chemical engineer by training, he became interested in environmental engineering early on in his career. He began working on water-quality problems in agricultural Midwest, something he still is doing even today. Schnoor is internationally recognized for his work on water-quality modeling, environmental health and risk/exposure assessments, and especially climate change. Jerry has received numerous accolades during his distinguished tenure at Iowa, including the ACS Award for Creative Advances in Environmental Science and Technology, the Perry L. McCarty AEESP Founders Award, and the Clarke Water Prize, but possibly his biggest accomplishment was the lives of countless students that he impacted. We are currently reaching out to Jerry’s former students and colleagues to raise additional funds to fully endow the fund, so that it, along with the incredible legacy left by Jerry, will live on in perpetuity.
The Jerry Schnoor Graduate Student Support Fund will impact students as directly as possible by providing support for scholarships, travel, and research. This fund may also support other items including, but not limited to equipment, as long as student financial support is the primary focus. Additional preference may be given to students who have work experience in the public or private sectors for a time beyond their undergraduate degrees.
