Iowa Agni is a multicultural a-cappella team at the University of Iowa. We perform at numerous cultural events on campus, advocate for diversity on campus, and compete at national competitions affiliated with the Association of South-Asian A Cappella.
Iowa Agni started out as a group that primarily performed at campus events. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, we had to disband. In Fall of 2021, we came back together in hopes of transforming our group into a nationally compe.ng a-cappella team. Iowa Agni has a unique style of a-cappella that fuses South Asian music with English music.
Iowa Agni competed at UC Berkeley virtually in Spring of 2022 and placed first in the competition. We had the privilege to travel for the first time and compete at Berkeley again in January of 2023. Our goal for this season is to compete at two competitions this year.
As of right now, there are no competitions in the Midwest. Most of the competitions are in the East coast and west coast, so we will have to travel via flight. Each competition will cost about eight thousand dollars in flight costs, food costs, registration fees, application fees, and costume fees.
With your help, we hope to use the funds raised to further compete across the country and represent South Asian culture and the University of Iowa.
