About

Alyssa has a rare immune disorder called C3G (complement 3 glomerulopathy) that deposits proteins that hurt her kidneys, no specific treatment is yet available for this disease. This disease has only been recently categorized in 2013. While we have learned a lot about this disease, we have so far to go.  Current treatment options only mask the downstream effects, while the disease still runs its course behind the scenes. We are so blessed to have access to world class health care through the University of Iowa, who have dedicated so much of their resources to the research and treatment of C3G. Not only do they perform high end research through the Molecular Otolaryngology and Renal Research Laboratory (MORL), they dedicate personal time and energy in offering families an annual conference. Through Dr. Nester’s care, we have access to treatments that are not yet available to the general public.  Early access to these treatments is crucial, as we may be able to avoid permanent damage to Alyssa’s kidneys. While investigational drugs do come with risks of the unknown, we are grateful to at least have options. This is one of the first medications to treat her condition! It is with deep gratitude that we would like to recognize and support the University of Iowa Hospitals, and their amazing staff: Dr. Nester, Nikki, and their team who have worked tirelessly in their research.

Please donate to support Alyssa and the research to keep her going!
